feminism

 1) Why did Laura Bates start the Everyday Sexism project?

She originally started this project as she felt it was unjust the way she was treated on a daily avarage in which was clearly wrong and yet people who witnessed it happening refused to do anything. After finding out that this isn’t just an occurrence that happens to her but a shockingly wide variety of women dhe decided that something had to be done therefore leading to the creation of thr everyday sexism project.

2) How does the Everyday Sexism project link to the concept of post-feminism? Is feminism still required in western societies?

This is a different question to ask as western societies are meant to be the same however they still have many factors in which they are differentiated and in most of these western societies it is arguable that to the bat of an eye we have reached equal rights in term of feminism objectives however if you look deeper into it it is possible to argue for either point that sexism is starting to shift towards men/just being made known as well as the possibility of sexism towards women still happening but less publicly.

3) Why was new technology essential to the success of the Everyday Sexism project?

With the expansion of technology and shockingly wide use of the internet, it has become bery easy for people to publicly reveal their opinions at the click of a button as well as do things like start a community of people who have the same intentions. This therefore helped this project come into creation as they were able to share and ask the public about their experiences with this situation and helped sprout the everyday feminism project into the community it

is today

4) Will there be a point in the future when the Everyday Sexism project is not required? What is YOUR view on the future of feminism?

I personally feel as though we will never be able to reach a perfect state of feminism in the sense where both men and women are vaued in tge same way as there will always be free will in the wold and people to challenge opinions. this means no matter the efforts put in there will always be both male and female members of society to be discriminated against.

Media Magazine: The fourth wave?

Read the article: The Fourth Wave? Feminism in the Digital Age in MM55 (p64). You'll find the article in our Media Magazine archive here.

1) Summarise the questions in the first two sub-headings: What is networked feminism? Why is it a problem?

These are two questions that link with one another with regards to networked feminism which is the theory that feminism is divided into different waves. This is followed  by the question why is it a problem? This question might seem strange at first as we would find it strange to ask why the different historic factors of feminism is considered a problem however this has proven to indeed be a problem, the main concern is how the different waves crash with each other especially waves 2 and 3.

2) What are the four waves of feminism? Do you agree that we are in a fourth wave of ‘networked feminism’?

The first wave fought for and gained the right for women to vote. The second wave fought for the right for women to have access to an equal opportunity in the workforce, as well as the end of legal sex discrimination. The third wave allegedly lacked a cohesive goal and was often seen as an extension of the second wave. And i feel as though the fourth wave in which we are currently in isnt as much a wave as it was in previous waves as in this society people often find their own problems and fight for their own reasons meaning we rarely have joint communities for specific demographics.

3) Focus on the examples in the article. Write a short summary of EACH of the following: Everyday Sexism, HeForShe, FCKH8 campaign, This Girl Can.

Everyday Feminism is a movement that aims to make feminist concepts and principles accessible to a wider audience. It focuses on addressing everyday issues and experiences through a feminist lens, such as workplace discrimination, relationships, and parenting, in order to promote equality and challenge systems of oppression.

Fckh8 is a for-profit company and movement that uses provocative and controversial marketing campaigns to raise awareness and funds for social justice issues, particularly those related to LGBTQ+ rights and gender equality. They have been known for their use of strong language and imagery in their merchandise and advertising.

The "This Girl Can" movement is a UK-based campaign launched in 2015 by Sport England, aimed at encouraging more women and girls to participate in physical activity. The campaign uses a variety of media, including television ads, social media, and billboards, to promote the message that it is normal for women to sweat and that physical activity can be fun and empowering.

4) What is your opinion with regards to feminism and new/digital media? Do you agree with the concept of a 'fourth wave' of feminism post-2010 or are recent developments like the Everyday Sexism project merely an extension of the third wave of feminism from the 1990s?

I personally prefer to have no oppinion about these situations as now if you say something that isnt fully reasoned with others or is 'too different, you will get some hate and or some threats. That is an interesting statement though as this means that they have gone beyond their goal of equality and now makes it so that pwople are too scared to even publicly share an opinion and if they do depending on how much people agree with it, then you will be cancelled or accepted, no in between.
