audience theory 1

 1) Read this Mail Online article about the effects of videogames. How does this article link to the hypodermic needle model?

This article reinforces the hypodermic needle theory heavily as it emphasises how  the media is corrupting the brains of people specifically targeted at a younger demographic group as proven by the social learning theory.

2) How does coverage of the Talk Talk hacking case (see Daily Mail front page below) link to the hypodermic needle model? Why might someone criticise this front page?

I feel as though viewers of this newspaper could criticise this front page as people are now commonly associating these problems that are severe issues and now the public are constantly putting the blame on a younger audience that tend to play video games. Some could say its wrong how suspicions go straight to these groups of people and excuse others of suspicion.

Two-step flow model

1) Summarise the two-step flow model. What is an opinion leader?

someone with influence over the internet who can manipulate or put their opinions on the public.

2) How do influencers like Zendaya fit into the two-step flow model?

She is an opinion leader because she is famous people tend to listen to her as they believe she knows what she's talking about regardless of if she's right or wrong.

3) In your opinion, is the two-step flow theory still relevant today?

I feel as though the two step model is relevant in this current time as many followers on social media follow the opinions of their idols.

Uses and Gratifications theory

1) For each of the four categories, write about one media text (e.g. film, TV programme, newspaper etc.) that fits that particular audience use or pleasure. Make sure you explain WHY it fits the category and use images or clips to illustrate your points. The first one is done for you.

Diversion: Film - Blinded By The Light. Entertaining and offering escapism for fans of Bruce Springsteen or anyone that enjoys coming of age films or culture-clash comedies.
Personal Relationships: Avengers endgame- we could build a bond with these fictional characters as we have seen what they have been through to achieve where they are.
Personal Identity: Friends- we can maybe see our own selves reflect off their friendship group
Surveillance: Chanel 4 news- as it can link with the person need to know whats happening around themselves.

Dependency theory

1) Do you agree that audiences have become dependent on the media? What evidence or examples can you provide to support your view?

Audiences are heavily reliable on media i feel as now it has become almost a necessity to our lives.

2) How has the growth of new and digital technology in the last 15 years changed people's dependency on the media? Is this a new problem?

After it was introduced, i feel as though dependency on media has heavily improved throughout the years. and as bad as it could be for our social life, i feel as though the media could help us heavily in the future.

3) Reflecting on your own media use, how does your media consumption impact on your emotions? Does the media have an overall positive or negative impact on your health and wellbeing? Why?

i think its positive in the sense it opens a gate of freedom however its also negative as it can be distracting.
