 1) Analyse this RBK 50 Cent advert using the media codes you learned in the lesson: Technical, Written or verbal, Symbolic or non-verbal, Narrative. Write a paragraph for each one exploring the way meanings are created using those media codes.

I have found that Reebok has clearly established their targeted audiences by using symbolic codes. An example to be used is how they have used 50 cent as the face of this advert, most people know him for his musical success however those who know more about him would know that he has had a gang affiliated background. Furthermore, The picture used isn't the friendliest as there are factors of his facial expression that symbolises a "mean look". Props are also used effectively as normally we would assume that anyone wearing a cap sideways/backwards is up to no good. Typography also has been used very well in the sense as in the text all the o's and 0's have been replaced with a blank whole which we could resemble to gun wounds. The reason I say this is because 50 cent has been shot 9 times within one shooting and here in the advertisement it shows 11 "gunshots" this could link to the text itself as he says there is no guarantee tomorrow and that what has happened to him could happen to anyone. however knowing as this happened too 50 cent and he survived, this could be reebok trying to hint that if people use this brand they can withstand the same fate as 50 cent.

2) Next, analyse a print advert of your choice using the same media codes: Technical, Written or verbal, Symbolic or non-verbal, Narrative.

In this advertisement, Nike has said connoted that these shoes will help you reach new levels of height in basketball, They have conveyed this through taking a camera shot in which their model has jumped high and positioned themselves out of the camera frame in order to emphasise the height of the jump. The slogan for this advertisement says "who said man was not meant to fly" which infers that these shoes are what you need to achieve your pinnacle in sport. the idea of  flying is reinforced by the fact that there is no ground shown but instead shown with clouds. This could also be relating to the known phrase "sky's the limit"
